Hiring: General Manager - Contract

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Contract Management

  • Review tender documents, BOQs, specifications, and contract conditions.
  • Identify commercial and contractual risks during bid evaluation.
  • Participate in tender negotiations with clients.
  • Prepare contractual qualifications and commercial clarifications.
  • Coordinate with estimation, legal, finance, and project teams.

Contract Administration

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize contracts with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Interpret contract clauses and advise project teams.
  • Maintain contract documentation, amendments, and records.
  • Monitor contractual deliverables and project milestones.

Subcontract & Commercial Management

  • Develop subcontracting strategies.
  • Float enquiries and evaluate subcontractor quotations.
  • Negotiate commercial terms.
  • Prepare work orders and subcontract agreements.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance.
  • Review subcontractor claims and payment certifications.

Claims & Variation Management

  • Identify change orders and additional scope of work.
  • Prepare Extension of Time (EOT) claims.
  • Prepare cost claims and compensation events.
  • Negotiate variation orders with clients.
  • Minimize revenue leakage through effective claims management.

Risk & Commercial Control

  • Identify contractual risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain project risk registers.
  • Coordinate with legal advisors on contractual disputes.
  • Monitor project commercial performance.
  • Review budgets, cost reports, and project profitability.
  • Support billing and certification.
  • Improve project margins.

Dispute Resolution

  • Handle contractual disputes.
  • Support arbitration and litigation processes.
  • Coordinate documentation for legal proceedings.
  • Negotiate settlements wherever possible.

Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Participate in commercial review meetings.
  • Resolve contractual issues proactively.
  • Support project delivery teams.

Compliance

Ensure compliance with:

  • Contract conditions

  • Statutory regulations
  • Labour laws
  • GST provisions
  • Arbitration Act
  • Safety and quality requirements

Team Leadership

  • Lead Contracts Engineers and Commercial Managers.
  • Develop departmental SOPs.
  • Mentor and coach team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews.
  • Build contract management capabilities across projects.

Experience

  • 18–25 years of experience in Construction, EPC, Infrastructure, or Real Estate.
  • Minimum 8–10 years in senior Contracts/Commercial leadership roles.
  • Experience handling high-value residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projects.

Authority Level

  • Verify BOQs, measurements, rate analysis, contractor claims, and billing documents.
  • Recommend RA Bill certification, variations, EOTs, and contractual deviations.
  • Final approval of contract awards, payment releases, rate deviations, and legal waivers remains with the authorized approving authority.
