Job Description:
The Assistant Production Manager in a ferro alloys plant coordinates daily smelting operations, bridging senior leadership and the shop floor. Key responsibilities include managing Submerged Arc Furnaces (SAF), raw material inputs, electrode consumption, and tapping processes while ensuring optimal safety, quality, and strict production target adherence.
Core Responsibilities
- Furnace Management: Oversee smelting operations, control critical process parameters, and manage electrode paste, slipping, and baking.
- Production Planning: Execute shift-wise production plans, monitor output yields, and ensure uninterrupted daily operations to meet tonnage and alloy grade targets (e.g., Ferro Manganese, Silico Manganese).
- Raw Material & Inventory: Coordinate the batching and feeding of raw materials (ores, coal, coke, dolomite, fluxes) and monitor consumable stock.
- Quality Control: Track metal and slag compositions to ensure compliance with strict industry specifications.
- Maintenance Coordination: Work with mechanical and electrical teams to prevent equipment downtime, schedule preventive maintenance, and manage furnace overhauls.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce occupational health and safety (EHS) protocols, 5S practices, and environmental statutory regulations.
- Team Leadership: Manage shift supervisors, technicians, and contract labor, focusing on daily toolbox talks and manpower scheduling.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech or Diploma in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 5 to 10 years of operational experience in ferro alloys (e.g., SAF operations) or heavy steel manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of furnace thermodynamics, reduction processes, slag chemistry, and raw material handling.
- System Knowledge: Familiarity with process automation tools (SCADA, PLC) and ERP software (SAP PP/MM modules)
