Job Description:
A Fabricator Fitter constructs, assembles, and installs metal components and structural frameworks. They interpret engineering blueprints, cut and shape raw materials, and weld or bolt parts together. They ensure precise alignment and structural integrity while adhering strictly to safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Reading Schematics: Interpret technical blueprints, drawings, and schematics to determine exact specifications and dimensions.
- Material Preparation: Measure, mark, cut, bend, and shape raw metal components using shears, power saws, and drill presses.
- Fitting & Assembly: Align, fit, and secure structural parts using bolts, clamps, and tack welding before final assembly.
- Welding: Perform welding and joining techniques (such as MIG, TIG, or Stick) to fuse parts according to quality standards.
- Quality Control: Inspect fabricated parts with measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, tape measures) to ensure they meet required tolerances.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain tools, machinery, and workstations, reporting any malfunctions or wear and tear.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including wearing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Essential Requirements
- Technical Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; specialized ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certification or vocational diploma in metal fabrication or fitting.
- Experience: Proven experience (typically 2-5+ years) working as a fabricator, structural fitter, or in a related manufacturing/construction role.
- Physical Capabilities: Stamina to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and ability to work in demanding environments (e.g., at heights or in confined spaces).
- Tool Proficiency: Strong proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and heavy fabrication machinery.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent spatial awareness, manual dexterity, and a keen eye for identifying and correcting defects.
