Job Description:
A fleet manager oversees an organization’s vehicle operations to ensure safe, cost-effective, and efficient transportation. They are responsible for vehicle maintenance scheduling, fuel management, driver safety, and regulatory compliance. Key tasks include managing budgets, tracking performance metrics, and coordinating with drivers and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Uptime: Oversee preventive maintenance programs, schedule repairs, and minimize vehicle downtime.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all drivers and vehicles adhere to local transportation laws and safety protocols.
- Cost & Budget Management: Develop fleet operating budgets, monitor fuel consumption, and negotiate vendor contracts.
- Asset Lifecycle: Manage vehicle acquisition, leasing, registration, and disposal.
- Team & Driver Management: Recruit, train, and supervise drivers and mechanics.
- Technology Integration: Utilize GPS tracking, telematics, and fleet management systems for route optimization and data analysis.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a fleet manager, transport manager, or in a relevant logistics role.
- Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and fleet management software.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional leadership and communication abilities for team and vendor management.
- Knowledge of regional transportation laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
