Job Description:
The Head of Raw Materials oversees end-to-end material procurement, strategic sourcing, and supply chain management. They negotiate contracts, optimize costs, and align with production and finance teams to ensure uninterrupted inventory flow and mitigate supply risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing: Develop and implement annual procurement strategies, identifying reliable domestic and international vendors for bulk raw materials.
- Cost Optimization: Drive aggressive cost-saving initiatives, negotiate long-term agreements (LTAs), and monitor global market commodity trends.
- Inventory & Logistics: Optimize working capital by controlling inventory levels in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and coordinating inbound logistics.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Production, Quality Control, and R&D to ensure incoming materials match production requirements and quality standards.
- Vendor Management: Evaluate supplier performance, conduct vendor audits, and ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Supply Chain, or Business; MBA/PGDM in Materials Management is highly preferred.
- Experience: Typically 15+ years of experience in raw material procurement within a manufacturing, steel, or chemical industry.
- Skills: Expert negotiation, global sourcing capabilities, and deep proficiency in supply chain MIS reporting.
