Job Description:
A Safety Head (or Head of Health, Safety, and Environment / HSSE) leads an organization's safety strategy. They develop and enforce policies to protect workers, ensure compliance with national and international standards, and minimize workplace risks and accidents across all operational sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Policy & Strategy: Design, implement, and update comprehensive occupational health and safety (OHS) manuals, protocols, and long-term safety strategies.
- Compliance & Auditing: Ensure complete alignment with local labor laws, environmental regulations, and standards (such as ISO 45001 or OSHA guidelines) through routine audits.
- Risk Assessments: Lead Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRARC) initiatives across projects and operational facilities.
- Incident Investigation: Oversee root-cause analyses for accidents, injuries, or near-misses, and enforce corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Training & Culture: Drive safety-first awareness via regular toolbox talks, specialized training workshops, and emergency evacuation drills.
- Stakeholder Advisory: Act as the primary advisor to executive management on safety risks, metrics, performance tracking, and crisis management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Science, Occupational Health, or Safety Management.
- Certifications: Mandatory or preferred credentials like NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH, OSHA, or Certified Industrial Safety qualifications.
- Experience: 8 to 15+ years of progressive safety management experience, including several years in a senior leadership or multi-site role within high-risk sectors like construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, or mining.
- Skills: In-depth knowledge of safety legislation, strong leadership, effective incident reporting, and data analysis abilities.
