Job Description (JD) – AM/DM, Mechanical Design (Automotive Lighting)

Job Summary

Responsible for the design and development of automotive lighting products from concept to production. The role involves plastic part design, CAD modeling, engineering releases, tolerance analysis, design validation, and coordination with cross-functional teams to deliver quality products meeting customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automotive lighting components such as housings, bezels, brackets, lenses, heat sinks, and mounting features.
  • Create and modify 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5.
  • Apply plastic design guidelines including ribs, bosses, snap-fits, dog houses, and draft angles.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T implementation.
  • Support design reviews and feasibility studies.
  • Ensure designs comply with customer specifications and automotive standards.
  • Lead technical discussions with customer and external suppliers.
  • Coordinate with optics, electronics, thermal, manufacturing, quality, and project teams.
  • Support DFMEA, DFM, DFA, and design validation activities.
  • Participate in design optimization for cost, weight, quality, and manufacturability.
  • Analyse test failures and implement corrective design solutions.
  • Support prototype builds and production launches.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, drawings, BOMs, and design change requests.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Automotive Lighting Products.
  • Good understanding of Plastic Part Design.
  • Experience in CATIA V5.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis.
  • Understanding of Injection Molding Processes.
  • Experience with DFM, DFA, and DFMEA.
  • Knowledge of Automotive Product Development Process.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Management (ECN/ECR).
  • Ability to work in cross-functional and global teams.

Preferred Knowledge

  • Automotive standards and validation requirements.
  • IP sealing concepts and environmental requirements.
  • LED thermal management basics.
  • Vibration and durability requirements.
  • APQP, PPAP, and FMEA processes.
  • Experience with PLM Tool
