Job Title: Head – Design (Electrical & Mechanical) – Power Transformers

Department: Design

Reporting To: Director / Promoter

Location: Yewat, Pune

Job Purpose

The Head – Design will be responsible for leading the Electrical and Mechanical Design functions for Power Transformers, ensuring technically robust, cost-effective, and customer-centric designs that comply with national and international standards. The incumbent will drive product innovation, design optimization, engineering excellence, and cross-functional collaboration to support business growth and operational efficiency.

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Additional exposure to Mechanical Design Engineering will be preferred.

Experience

• 18–22 years of experience in Power Transformer Design.
• Proven expertise in Electrical Design with exposure to Mechanical Design.
• Experience in designing Power Transformers up to 400 kV (knowledge of 765 kV transformers will be an added advantage).
• Experience in designing Furnace Transformers and Locomotive Two-Phase Transformers will be preferred.
• Experience in leading and managing engineering/design teams in a transformer manufacturing company.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Lead the Electrical and Mechanical Design functions for Power Transformers.
• Develop and approve transformer designs in line with customer specifications, applicable standards, and business requirements.
• Design and optimize transformer core, windings, insulation systems, cooling arrangements, tanks, and structural components.
• Review design calculations, drawings, BOMs, and engineering documents before release for manufacturing.

Technical Excellence

• Perform and validate calculations related to transformer losses, impedance, temperature rise, short-circuit forces, stray and eddy losses, efficiency, and voltage regulation.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IS, IEEE, ANSI, and customer-specific standards.
• Support manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and customer technical discussions by providing engineering expertise.

Product Development & Innovation

• Stay updated with emerging technologies, materials, and design methodologies to enhance product performance and competitiveness.

Cross-functional Coordination

• Collaborate with Sales, Production, Quality, Procurement, Projects, and Testing teams for seamless project execution.
• Resolve design-related technical issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Design team to enhance technical capabilities and performance.
• Establish engineering standards, processes, and best practices to ensure quality and efficiency.

Technical Competencies

• Strong knowledge of Electrical and Mechanical Design of Power Transformers.
• Expertise in transformer design calculations, insulation coordination, thermal performance, and loss optimization.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, testing procedures, and quality standards.
• Working knowledge of IEC, IS, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Experience with engineering and simulation software such as VIT, COMSOL, ANSYS, AutoCAD, and other transformer design tools will be an added advantage.
