Job Summary

The Head – Heat Treatment is responsible for leading and managing all Heat Treatment operations, including Carburising, Induction Hardening, Furnace Operations, Production Planning, Quality Control, Maintenance Coordination, and Safety. The role ensures timely production, optimum furnace utilization, adherence to process parameters, and compliance with quality and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly Heat Treatment production plans.
• Plan furnace loading based on production schedules and material availability.
• Supervise Carburising, Induction Hardening, Tempering, and other Heat Treatment processes.
• Monitor and maintain critical process parameters such as temperature, carbon potential, millivolt values, soaking time, cycle time, and polymer concentration.
• Review SCADA reports and verify furnace performance on a daily basis.
• Ensure hardness testing and verification of Heat Treated components, and maintain inspection records.
• Coordinate with Production, Machine Shop, Quality, and Maintenance departments to ensure smooth material flow and timely completion of batches.
• Monitor furnace utilization, production targets, downtime, and take corrective actions when required.
• Ensure preventive and breakdown maintenance of furnaces and Heat Treatment equipment.
• Maintain availability of fixtures, baskets, induction coils, consumables, and spare parts.
• Prepare and maintain production reports, Heat Treatment records, inspection reports, maintenance logs, attendance records, and BOM updates.
• Preserve Heat Treatment samples and coordinate external metallurgical testing when required.
• Reduce rejection, rework, and furnace downtime through continuous process improvement.
• Plan manpower according to production requirements and supervise departmental personnel.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, mandatory PPE usage, and housekeeping standards.
• Support cost reduction, productivity improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualification

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.

Experience

• 10–15 years of experience in Heat Treatment operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
• Must have hands-on experience in handling and managing 6 to 10 Pit Type Heat Treatment Furnaces.
• Experience in furnace loading planning, carburising, induction hardening, process control, and team management is essential.
