Job Description:
Job Summary
The Machine Shop Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing daily operations of the machine shop, including CNC/VMC/VTL/DCMC/TMC to ensure production targets are met with the required quality, safety, and efficiency standards. The role involves planning machine and manpower allocation, monitoring machining processes, coordinating with programming and quality teams, and driving continuous improvement across the machine shop.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise daily machine shop operations across lathes, milling machines, VMC, CNC, VTL, DCMC, TMC and other machining equipment.
- Allocate machines, manpower, and jobs based on the daily/weekly production plan and delivery priorities.
- Monitor machining operations to ensure adherence to process parameters, tolerances, and quality standards as per drawings.
- Coordinate with CNC/VMC/DCMC programmers for new job setups, program validation, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure timely first-piece approval and in-process inspection in coordination with the quality control team.
- Track daily machine shop output, downtime, tool consumption, and rejections, and maintain accurate production records.
- Identify machine breakdowns, bottlenecks, or manpower shortages, and coordinate with maintenance or production management for quick resolution.
- Guide, train, and mentor machine operators and programmers to improve productivity, quality, and safety compliance.
- Enforce workplace safety practices and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the machine shop.
- Coordinate with the stores/tool room for timely availability of raw materials, tooling, and fixtures.
- Support implementation of process improvements, 5S, and lean manufacturing practices in the machine shop.
- Prepare and present daily/weekly machine shop performance reports, rejection analysis, and manpower attendance to management.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- B.E /B.Tech Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 10–15 years of experience in machine shop operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role within an industrial/machine manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of machining processes CNC/VMC/VTL/DCMC/TMC operations.
- Experience in manpower planning, shift scheduling, and shop-floor problem-solving.
- Ability to read complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerances.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (Tally/SAP) for production data entry and reporting is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and team management skills to guide and motivate machine shop staff.
- Good problem-solving and decision-making abilities under production pressure.
- Good communication skills in Gujarati, Hindi, and English.
- Ability to coordinate effectively across programming, quality, stores, and maintenance departments.
- Strong commitment to safety, discipline, and quality standards on the shop floor.
- Basic computer proficiency, including MS Excel and ERP software.
