Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for managing the automobile/vehicle section of the plant, including maintenance, availability, servicing, repair, documentation, and safe operation of company vehicles such as trucks, tractors, tippers, forklifts, cars, and other material-handling/transport vehicles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Automobile/Vehicle Department.
  • Ensure maximum availability and proper functioning of all company vehicles.
  • Plan and supervise preventive and breakdown maintenance of vehicles.
  • Monitor servicing, repair, lubrication, tyre condition, battery, engine, transmission, brakes, steering, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose vehicle breakdowns and coordinate timely repairs.
  • Allocate vehicles and drivers according to plant requirements.
  • Maintain vehicle-wise maintenance and service schedules.
  • Monitor fuel consumption, mileage, and vehicle operating costs.
  • Inspect vehicles before and after operation for safety and mechanical condition.
  • Coordinate with workshops, spare-parts vendors, and external service agencies.
  • Maintain records of repairs, spare parts, fuel, tyres, batteries, and maintenance expenses.
  • Ensure availability of critical automobile spare parts.
  • Supervise automobile mechanics, electricians, drivers, helpers, and technicians.
  • Monitor driver performance and ensure compliance with company safety rules.
  • Ensure all vehicles have valid documents, insurance, permits, fitness certificates, and pollution certificates.
  • Maintain vehicle logbooks and daily usage records.
  • Reduce vehicle downtime and control unnecessary maintenance costs.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety procedures, PPE, 5S, and housekeeping.
  • Investigate recurring vehicle problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare daily/monthly automobile maintenance and performance reports.
  • Coordinate with Production, Stores, Dispatch, Logistics, and Administration departments for vehicle requirements.
  • Ensure safe parking, movement, and operation of vehicles inside the plant.
  • Handle emergency breakdowns and arrange quick restoration of vehicles.

Qualification

  • ITI – Automobile / Diesel Mechanic / Motor Mechanic preferred
  • Diploma in Automobile / Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • 10th/12th with relevant experience may also be considered

Experience

  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in automobile/vehicle maintenance.
  • Experience in Steel Plant, Manufacturing Plant, Mining, DRI, Ferro Alloy, Construction, or Heavy Industry preferred.
  • Experience handling heavy vehicles, tractors, tippers, trucks, forklifts, and plant vehicles will be an advantage.
