Job Summary

Responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining mechanical equipment used in the pollution-control system of a DRI plant. The role focuses on maintaining equipment such as dust collection, material conveying, air pollution control, and associated mechanical systems to ensure smooth plant operation and compliance with safety and environmental procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor pollution-control mechanical equipment in the DRI plant.
  • Inspect equipment such as bag filters, dust collectors, scrubbers, blowers, fans, hoppers, rotary valves, screw conveyors, and associated systems.
  • Monitor equipment condition, abnormal noise, vibration, temperature, leakage, and blockage.
  • Carry out routine inspection and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Check proper functioning of dust extraction and material collection systems.
  • Ensure proper operation of conveyors, dampers, valves, ducts, and mechanical components.
  • Attend breakdowns and coordinate with the mechanical maintenance team.
  • Identify and report equipment abnormalities to the supervisor.
  • Assist during shutdown, maintenance, cleaning, and equipment-overhauling activities.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping around pollution-control equipment.
  • Follow SOPs, safety procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Coordinate with DRI operation, electrical, instrumentation, and environmental teams.
  • Maintain equipment inspection and maintenance records.
  • Ensure safe handling of dust, collected material, and waste generated during operations.
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause identification of recurring mechanical problems.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of DRI plant mechanical equipment.
  • Understanding of pollution-control equipment and dust extraction systems.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, blowers, fans, ducts, dampers, valves, and bag filters.
  • Basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to identify abnormal equipment conditions.
  • Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance.
  • Good safety awareness and teamwork.
  • Ability to work in shifts and high-temperature industrial environments.

Qualification

  • ITI – Fitter / Mechanical preferred.
  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in DRI/steel plant pollution-control or mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience with bag filter and dust-collection systems will be an advantage.
