Job Purpose
To lead and manage Production Planning, Material Planning, Demand Forecasting, Capacity Planning, and Inventory Control activities across manufacturing facilities to ensure uninterrupted product availability, optimum inventory levels, efficient utilization of resources, and timely fulfillment of customer requirements while maintaining compliance with pharmaceutical regulatory and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily production plans based on sales forecasts and business requirements.
- Prepare and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for all manufacturing facilities.
- Coordinate with Production teams to ensure effective execution of production plans.
- Monitor production schedule adherence and take corrective actions to address deviations.
- Balance production priorities considering capacity, material availability, and customer commitments.
2. Demand Forecasting & Sales Coordination
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Business Development teams to understand demand forecasts.
- Analyze forecast trends and identify demand fluctuations.
- Convert sales forecasts into executable manufacturing plans.
- Conduct periodic demand review meetings and recommend inventory strategies.
- Monitor forecast accuracy and implement improvement initiatives.
3. Material Requirement Planning (MRP)
- Generate and review Material Requirement Plans (MRP) for raw materials, APIs, excipients, packaging materials, and consumables.
- Ensure timely availability of materials for uninterrupted production.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Stores departments to manage purchase planning.
- Monitor supplier lead times and inventory replenishment cycles.
- Prevent stock-outs and minimize excess inventory.
4. Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels of Raw Materials, Packing Materials, Work-in-Progress (WIP), and Finished Goods.
- Establish safety stock norms and reorder levels.
- Analyze inventory aging and drive reduction of slow-moving and non-moving inventory.
- Optimize inventory carrying costs while ensuring production continuity.
- Conduct periodic inventory reviews and reconciliation activities.
5. Capacity Planning & Resource Optimization
- Assess manufacturing capacity against projected demand.
- Identify bottlenecks and capacity constraints.
- Recommend capacity enhancement, outsourcing, or resource allocation strategies.
- Support long-term manufacturing expansion planning.
- Monitor equipment utilization and production efficiency.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Procurement, Warehouse, QA, QC, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, and Sales teams.
- Ensure alignment between production schedules, material availability, and customer requirements.
- Facilitate Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings.
- Resolve planning-related operational issues and escalate risks when required.
7. Regulatory & Quality Compliance
- Ensure PPIC processes comply with GMP, WHO-GMP, Schedule M, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain planning records and documentation as per quality systems.
- Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure traceability and inventory control compliance requirements are met.
8. MIS, Analytics & Reporting
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly planning reports.
- Monitor KPIs related to inventory, service levels, capacity utilization, and forecast accuracy.
- Present planning performance reports to management.
- Develop dashboards and planning analytics for decision-making.
9. Process Improvement & ERP Management
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in planning and inventory management.
- Improve planning efficiency through ERP/MRP systems.
- Standardize PPIC processes across manufacturing locations.
- Participate in digital transformation and supply chain optimization projects.
10. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the PPIC team.
- Set departmental goals and monitor performance.
- Conduct training and competency development programs.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

- Recommend procurement priorities based on production requirements.
- Review inventory replenishment and stocking strategies.
- Escalate production and capacity constraints to management.
- Recommend inventory disposition for excess, obsolete, and slow-moving stock.
- Participate in supply chain and operational improvement initiatives.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm) / Master in Pharmacy (M.Pharm), Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or related discipline.
- MBA / PGDM in Operations, Supply Chain Management, or Production Management preferred.
Experience
- 8 to 12 years of experience in PPIC, Supply Chain, Production Planning, or Operations Planning within the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industry.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in a managerial role.
- Experience in handling Injectable, OSD, Oral Liquid, Dry Syrup, Cephalosporin, or Penicillin manufacturing operations is preferred.
