About the Opportunity

Orbit Global HR Consultants is supporting a leading manufacturing organization in identifying an experienced DGM – Logistics & Warehouse / Logistics Head to lead end-to-end logistics, transportation, warehousing, inventory control and logistics operations.

This is a senior leadership position for a professional with strong experience in manufacturing logistics, freight management, warehouse operations, export logistics, transporter management, cost optimization and supply chain coordination.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to manage large-scale logistics operations, build strong transportation networks, optimize freight costs and ensure timely movement of raw materials and finished goods.

Key Responsibilities

1. Logistics Operations Management

  • Lead end-to-end inbound and outbound logistics operations.

  • Manage inbound movement of raw materials including PTA, MEG, chips, packaging materials and other manufacturing inputs.

  • Manage outbound logistics of finished products including PSF, POY, FDY, DTY, chips and related products.

  • Develop cost-effective transportation strategies covering road, rail and containerized movements.

  • Manage freight contracts, rate negotiations, logistics tenders and transportation agreements.

  • Ensure timely dispatches in line with sales orders, production schedules and customer commitments.

2. Export & International Logistics

  • Manage export logistics and container planning.

  • Coordinate with ports, transporters, shipping agencies and other logistics partners.

  • Ensure proper customs documentation and regulatory compliance.

  • Monitor container movement, detention, demurrage and turnaround time.

  • Ensure smooth and timely export shipments.

3. Warehouse & Inventory Management

  • Manage raw material and finished goods warehouses.

  • Plan warehouse capacity, layout and material movement.

  • Ensure accurate inventory management and FIFO compliance.

  • Minimize stock shortages, excess inventory, damages, pilferage and non-moving inventory.

  • Coordinate closely with Production, Sales and Planning teams for uninterrupted material flow.

4. Compliance, Audit & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, company policies and logistics SOPs.

  • Manage logistics-related internal and statutory audit requirements.

  • Ensure proper documentation and verification of transporter onboarding, BGs, EMDs and security deposits.

  • Identify operational and logistics risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.

5. Cost Optimization & Process Improvement

  • Drive initiatives to reduce freight cost per MT.

  • Optimize transportation routes, truck utilization, containerization and load consolidation.

  • Reduce detention, demurrage and vehicle turnaround time.

  • Develop logistics dashboards and monitor operational KPIs.

  • Drive process improvement, digitization and SAP/ERP enhancements across logistics operations.

6. Vendor & Transporter Management

  • Develop and manage a strong network of transporters and logistics service providers.

  • Negotiate competitive freight rates and commercial terms.

  • Conduct periodic vendor performance reviews and audits.

  • Implement corrective actions for service and performance gaps.

  • Build long-term strategic relationships with logistics partners.

7. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Lead, mentor and develop logistics and warehouse teams.

  • Establish operational discipline, accountability and performance standards.

  • Coordinate with Commercial, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Procurement, Production and IT teams.

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and operational excellence.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Strong experience in Logistics & Warehouse Management.

  • Experience in a manufacturing / industrial environment.

  • Exposure to high-volume inbound and outbound logistics.

  • Strong knowledge of transportation and freight management.

  • Experience in transporter negotiation, tenders and contract management.

  • Exposure to export logistics, container movement and port coordination.

  • Strong warehouse and inventory management experience.

  • Knowledge of SAP/ERP-based logistics processes.

  • Strong analytical, commercial and cost-optimization skills.

  • Experience managing large logistics teams and multiple stakeholders.

  • Strong leadership, negotiation and problem-solving capabilities.

Candidates from the following industries would be particularly relevant:

Polyester, Synthetic Fibre, Textile, Petrochemical, Chemical, Polymer, Packaging, Manufacturing, Industrial Products and Process Industries.
