Job Description:
An RMP (Raw Material Processing / Preparation) Shift In-Charge manages daily operations, material flow, and safety compliance in raw material handling or sponge iron/sinter/DRI divisions of steel and manufacturing plants.
Job Summary
The Shift In-Charge oversees shift-level execution, team coordination, and machine performance to ensure raw materials meet exact plant and blast furnace specifications safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Manage shift operations for raw material handling sections, crushers, screens, conveyors, and yards.
- Control material blending and ratios to ensure chemical compositions meet target plant specifications.
- Monitor critical process parameters including machine speeds, bed depth, burn-through points, and moisture levels.
- Optimize production throughput to fulfill downstream blast furnace or DRI requirements.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Lead first-line troubleshooting during equipment breakdowns, jams, or process deviations.
- Perform routine inspections of critical machinery (sinter machines, coolers, fan systems, conveyors).
- Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation maintenance teams for rapid breakdown resolution.
- Oversee safe startup sequences and planned shutdown activities.
- Quality & Safety Compliance
- Monitor physical and chemical quality properties of processed materials.
- Enforce safety protocols, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain shift logs, production reports, and waste reduction metrics.
Typical Requirements & Criteria
- Qualification: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (or relevant metallurgical/industrial discipline).
- Experience: Generally 2 to 7 years of hands-on experience in raw material handling, sponge iron (SID), DRI, or steel manufacturing plants.
- Key Skills: Plant operations, equipment maintenance, process optimization, safety compliance, team leadership, and shift planning.
