Job Description:
A GM (General Manager) SID (Sponge Iron Division) job description involves senior leadership for a steel plant's SID, focusing on strategic planning, operational excellence, P&L, and team leadership, managing all aspects from raw materials to final product, ensuring safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a high-pressure environment. Key duties include overseeing kiln/DRI production, managing budgets, implementing business strategy, driving performance, and fostering growth in the competitive steel industry.
Core Responsibilities
- Operations Management: Oversee daily sponge iron/DRI production, raw material handling, plant maintenance, and electrical systems, ensuring maximum availability.
- Strategic & Financial Leadership: Develop business strategy, manage budgets, set KPIs, drive profitability, and explore growth opportunities.
- Quality & Safety: Implement stringent quality control, enforce safety protocols (hazardous materials, high temperatures), and maintain environmental compliance.
- Team Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams, mentor staff, manage performance, and foster a positive work culture.
- Continuous Improvement: Deploy Lean principles, enhance processes, and drive innovation in the plant's operations.
Key Skills & Experience
- Experience: Extensive background (20+ years) in heavy manufacturing, ideally in SID, Kiln, or DRI operations.
- Leadership: Strong management, strategic planning, financial acumen, and people development skills.
- Technical: Deep understanding of steel plant processes, equipment (kilns, EAF/CCM), and maintenance.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict management.
