Job Description:
The job description for a Deputy Manager of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) in a Sponge Iron Division (SID) typically involves overseeing all E&I aspects of the plant, focusing on both maintenance and project work, and ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Lead the team in diagnosing and resolving complex electrical, instrumentation, and automation failures to minimize plant downtime. This includes maintenance of HT/LT motors, switchgears, transformers, PLC/SCADA systems, and various field instruments (RTDs, thermocouples, flow meters, etc.).
- Project Management: Plan, lead, and execute E&I-related capital projects, modifications, and new equipment installations within budget and timelines. Coordinate with vendors and support site installation and commissioning activities.
- Planning & Documentation: Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules. Prepare and review engineering documents like P&IDs, load lists, cable schedules, and hook-up drawings.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all E&I works strictly adhere to industry standards (e.g., ISA, local electrical inspectorate regulations) and rigorous safety protocols (e.g., LOTO). Lead safety audits and incident investigations.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and train a team of E&I engineers and technicians, ensuring high technical competency and performance.
- Budget & Resource Management: Assist in developing and managing the departmental budget, overseeing spare parts planning, and managing external vendors and contractors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering is typically required, with a certain level of post-qualification experience often specified for the role.
- Experience: Significant experience (usually 7-10+ years) in a relevant heavy industry environment such as steel, cement, or power plants, particularly in a Sponge Iron Division (SID), is mandatory.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA), automation, power distribution, and field instrumentation is essential.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills are crucial for coordinating with various departments and managing a team effectively.
