Job Description:
A Chemist (SID/Raw Material) in the steel/mineral industry conducts chemical analyses of raw materials (iron ore, coal, coke, limestone) and finished products (sponge iron, pig iron, slag) to ensure quality standards. They perform wet chemical analysis, operate instruments like proximate analyzers, and maintain lab safety in a plant setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Chemical Analysis: Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of raw materials and molten metals to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Lab Operations: Prepare test solutions, reagents, and compounds; manage, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments.
- Quality Control: Analyze Iron Ore, Coal, Pellet, Coke, Dolomite, Manganese Ore, and other raw materials.
- Reporting: Document and report test results, analyzing composition for production, quality, and maintenance teams.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to laboratory safety procedures.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry.
- Experience: 2–3 years, particularly in a steel, metal, or iron industry laboratory.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in wet chemistry techniques and operating equipment like proximate analyzers (e.g., Leco TGA 701).
- Competencies: Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Salary and Working Conditions
- Location: Often based in industrial hubs like Raipur.
- Salary: Typically ranges between ₹1.80 LPA and ₹3.60 LPA (approx. ₹25,000 - ₹30,000 per month).
- Working Hours: Full-time, likely involving shift work in a production environment.
