Job Description:
An Instrument Engineer in a power plant is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the plant's control and instrumentation systems to ensure efficiency and safety. Key duties include performing maintenance and calibration on instruments like sensors, transmitters, and control valves, developing and maintaining technical documentation, managing projects, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Job description and responsibilities
- Design and Development:
- Design and develop electrical and instrumentation systems for new projects or modifications.
- Create electrical wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and instrument specifications.
- Design control system architectures and logic.
- Installation and Commissioning:
- Oversee the installation of new instrumentation and control systems.
- Perform technical assistance during commissioning, including loop checking and testing.
- Ensure proper installation of field instruments, cables, and marshaling cabinets.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on installed systems.
- Calibrate instruments such as transmitters, gauges, and control valves using specialized tools.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with instrumentation and control systems to prevent downtime.
- Project and Documentation Management:
- Manage projects, including planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Ensure timely project completion and adherence to budget.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all work complies with plant safety procedures and regulatory standards.
- Implement health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Provide technical assistance and support to other teams.
- System Integration:
- Integrate instrumentation and control systems with existing processes and equipment.
- Work with various control systems, such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
