Job Description:
A mechanical welder (SMS) specializes in joining metal components using various welding techniques, often within the context of mechanical systems and engineering projectsSMS, in this context, likely refers to the SMS group, a company specializing in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and non-ferrous metals industry. These welders work with diverse materials and thicknesses, ensuring strong, reliable welds for different applications. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Welding Processes:
    Employing various welding methods like TIG, MIG, or arc welding to join metal components. 
     
  • Material Selection:
    Choosing appropriate welding procedures and filler materials based on material type, thickness, and application requirements. 
     
  • Equipment Operation:
    Utilizing welding machines, torches, and other tools to perform precise and consistent welds. 
     
  • Quality Assurance:
    Inspecting welds for defects, ensuring they meet specified standards and requirements. 
     
  • Following Procedures:
    Adhering to safety protocols, technical drawings, and welding procedures outlined in standards like DIN EN ISO 9692-1:2013-12. 
     
  • Working with Mechanical Systems:
    Welding components in various mechanical systems, such as rolling mills, shears, and other machinery. 
     
  • Troubleshooting:
    Identifying and resolving issues related to welding processes or weld quality. 
     
  • Maintenance:
    Performing basic maintenance on welding equipment to ensure optimal performance. 
     
  • Collaboration:
    Working with other welders, engineers, and technicians to complete projects effectively. 
     
Specific Applications:
  • Strip Processing Lines:
    Joining steel strips in coil-to-coil applications, often involving high-strength materials and demanding welding parameters. 
     
  • Rolling Mills:
    Welding components for rolling mills, including drive trains, shear components, and other critical parts. 
     
  • Manufacturing Workshops:
    Working in SMS group's manufacturing workshops, which are qualified for welding according to standards like EN 1090-2 and DIN 15018. 
     
  • Billet Welding:
    Joining billets for rolling into various products, sometimes involving induction furnaces for temperature equalization.
