Job Description:
A Pump Operator (Mechanical) in a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) ensures continuous operation of critical hydraulic, cooling, and circulation systems. Responsibilities include operating/monitoring centrifugal/slurry pumps, performing preventive maintenance on seals and lubrication systems, and troubleshooting breakdowns to support steel production.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Monitoring: Start, stop, and monitor pump performance, including pressure, flow, and temperature, ensuring continuous cooling for furnace and casting machinery.
- Mechanical Maintenance: Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance (lubrication, packing adjustment).
- Breakdown Repair: Assist in overhauling pumps, changing seals, bearings, and impellers.
- SMS Specific Operations: Handle high-pressure water circuits, chemical dosing pumps, and slag granulation pump systems.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety standards (PPE, LOTO) in a high-temperature environment.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: 1–6 years in mechanical maintenance/pump operations, preferably in a steel plant or heavy industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of centrifugal pumps, pumping systems, and basic hydraulic systems.
- Education: ITI in Fitter/Mechanic or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Skills: Ability to read technical manuals, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and work in shifts
