FURNACE OPERATOR

Job Description:

Charges furnace with scrap, blown and molten metal received from convertor and blast furnace, chemicals etc., according to type of steel required. Controls fuel intake and flow of air in furnace to suit furnace condition. Takes care not to damage refractory work of furnace

• Strong learning aptitude required because 85% of the knowledge required must be learned on the job
• Function as a viable member of the furnace team
• Conduct preventive and general maintenance on furnace hardware including hearth, molds, shields and feeders, gate valves, vacuum pumps, helium recovery systems and other support systems
• Troubleshoot equipment and system abnormalities
• Ability to work in areas requiring safety harnesses (heights) and confined spaces
• Must be flexible with work schedule and be available for overtime and weekends
• Work on tasks outside of the job description as directed by Management and/or Lead Operators for training, emergency relief purposes, production needs or continuous improvements
• Responsible for accurate reporting of production and scrap data
• Authority to cease production of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has
• Set-up and operate PC Based Induction Furnace, Spray Coat System, Preparation and Weld Station and Abrasive Saw
