Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of a Wire Rod Mill oversees all production, maintenance, and operational activities, ensuring high efficiency, quality standards, and profitability for a steel manufacturing unit. Responsibilities include optimizing rolling processes, managing raw materials to finished products, reducing cobble rates, and leading technical teams.
Key Responsibilities & Job Description
- Operational Leadership: Manage end-to-end wire rod mill operations, including furnace operations, rolling stands, cooling, and coiling processes.
- Production & Efficiency: Develop and implement production schedules, monitor process parameters, and optimize yield while reducing cobble rates and energy consumption.
- Maintenance Management: Oversee both routine and breakdown maintenance of equipment like walking beam furnaces, shearers, pinch rolls, and coilers.
- Quality Control: Ensure products meet technical specifications and standards (e.g., ISO and QS audits).
- Team Management: Lead and guide operators, technicians, and supervisors to maintain a safe and productive environment.
- Financial & Safety Management: Manage budgets, control operating costs, and enforce strict safety standards.
Key Competencies & Qualifications
- Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: Proven experience in managing a Wire Rod Mill, with a strong understanding of roll pass design and guide systems.
- Skills: Strong technical knowledge of steel rolling, effective leadership, problem-solving, and capability to manage profit centers.
