JOB DESCRIPTION

Business Title: Packaging Development 

Global Job Title: Assistant Manager

Reports to (position): Manager Technical

Global Function: Industrial operations 

Role Purpose Statement (Write a brief statement regarding the objective of the position and why it exists):

To Spear head & support Packaging activity for India. Support in-country development of an innovative package for B2C and B2B business segments. Provide plant-level consultation and support for all facets of packaging. Interface with the regional project team on a regular basis to maintain project schedule.

Main Accountabilities (List 6-8 major areas of responsibilities in order of importance, and purpose of these activities:

• Manage scale-up activities, cost and quality improvement programs at key package component suppliers.
• Interface with the India commercial team and marketing ensuring needs of the package innovations and new launches are met as per agreed timeline.
• Develop testing procedures and protocols wherever necessary.
• Identify and work on customer centricity projects.
• Work on legal changes such as FSSAI, packaged commodity rule and other form of gazette which may impact packaging material used in plant and outside processing units. 

• Identify & Work on sustainable packaging projects. Impact/Dimensions(Describe the strategic impact of the role / Using dollars and/or numbers, list the pertinent statistics of the position which clarify major areas of impact. Examples are: # of employees supervised, annual budget, annual sales/revenue):
• Timely completion of development projects and cost savings projects.
• Support marketing team for different requirements.
• Manage and groom team members with different challenges in projects.
• Reduce market complain by modification of packaging material or improving the process.
• Approval of artwork within 2 working day.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) (Measurable outcomes that the position contributes to):

• Timely tracking for completion of project with relevant stakeholders.
• Tracking Mould development project for plant and timely release advance for faster closure of mould development activity
• Reduce MLP used in plants and across production units
• Develop alternate source for key PM which are been identified by procurement.
• Development & distribution of shade cards across production site and vendor.

Major Opportunities and Decisions (Describe the more difficult and/or complex challenges or opportunities and decisions faced in doing work, improving processes or meeting customer needs. Where must position focus to be
successful?):

• Should be able to conceptualize right packaging format which can deliver the objective of NPD brief.
• Need to visualize the possible challenges during the development process and how to mitigate the risk. Effectively contribute with cross-functional team for success of NPD
• Regularly benchmarking PM with competitors and provide decision to business for changes.
• Work with design agency for stable bottle & jar design and cost-effective articles and friendly with Pm line and supply chain.
• Taking trial and studying effect on Pm line and from market in case mould changes in jar and pet bottle with help pilot mould before commercial trials.

Management/Leadership (Describe the level of management and leadership skills required for the role. Identify key specialties, technical and knowledge areas necessary to accomplish responsibilities and desired results):

• Should have enough curiosity to learn and track new development happening Pan India and update status on regular interval to all the stake holders.
• Help team to conceptualize new Packaging led NPD fit for our range of products.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret data and guide team for achieving desired business results.

Key Relationships, Stakeholders & Interfaces (External & Internal):

• Having good relations in packaging industry and effectively communicate to other support functions, and R&D team, Marketing Team for necessary which can be implemented speedy in our packaging material.
• Build good and healthy business relations with the plant team and R&D team, PM vendor and update them on emerging market trends, to build long term relationship.

Knowledge and Technical Competencies (Identify knowledge and specific technical competencies to accomplish the desired end results. Some examples are licenses & certifications and knowledge and abilities):

• In depth knowledge of material of construction for laminates, rigid plastics, cartons paper combination and tinplate.
• Should have in hand experience in mould designing process for HDPE Jars, PET Bottle & Closure System.
• Problem solving attitude during change overs of Packaging material in plant or during product site transfer.
• Should know problem solving techniques such, Y-Y analysis, Ishikawa diagram and other form of root cause analysis for better decision making.

Education/Experience (Identify types and length of education and experience needed to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to accomplish the desired end results. Some examples are education & training, and years of experience):

• Graduate from science steam with Post Graduation Diploma in Packaging from Indian Institute of Packaging is must.
• Should have experience in machine drawing & designing keyline for label, cartons, laminates etc.
• Should have handled artwork co-ordination with various stakeholder from creation till production for new products as well as for existing products.
