Job Description:
A Supervisor for a rice/dal plant oversees daily milling and production activities, ensures quality and safety standards are met, manages personnel, and optimizes operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Plan, supervise, and coordinate all daily production and plant operations to meet targets and delivery schedules. This includes setting production goals and optimizing resource and manpower allocation.
- Quality Control: Monitor the milling process to ensure the final product (rice or dal) meets specified quality standards and customer requirements. This involves conducting regular tests and inspections and implementing corrective actions for quality issues.
- Equipment Operations & Maintenance: Ensure the proper functioning of milling machinery (e.g., shellers, hullers, polishers, de-stoners). Coordinate with the maintenance team for regular servicing and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- Safety and Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and company policies. Promote a safety-first culture and conduct regular safety inspections.
- Inventory and Supply Chain: Oversee the inventory of raw materials (paddy/pulses), in-process goods, and finished products. Coordinate with supply chain and logistics departments to manage stock levels and ensure timely procurement.
- Team Leadership & Management: Supervise, train, and mentor production staff, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and resolving personnel issues. Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production data, inventory, and maintenance activities. Prepare daily and monthly reports for management analysis.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in efficiency and cost reduction, and implement continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean Manufacturing principles).
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma is often required, with an associate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Food Science, Manufacturing, or a related field often preferred.
- Experience: Proven experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the food processing industry (especially grain/pulse milling) being highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Sound knowledge of rice and dal processing techniques, relevant machinery, and food safety standards like HACCP and GMP principles.
- Core Competencies: Strong leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills are essential. The ability to manage multiple priorities and an analytical mindset for data interpretation are also key.
- Physical Demands: The role is hands-on and requires working on the plant floor, which can be noisy and fast-paced, and may involve lifting up to 50 pounds.
