QUALITY HEAD - STEEL

Job Description:

• Job summary
  The Head of Laboratory is responsible for leading all lab operations, ensuring accurate and timely chemical and physical testing of all materials involved in the steelmaking process. This role involves managing personnel, overseeing equipment maintenance, ensuring compliance with quality standards (e.g., ISO), and collaborating with production to drive continuous improvement in product quality. 
   
  Roles and responsibilities
   
  Laboratory management and oversight
  • Manage, supervise, and train laboratory personnel, including chemists and metallurgists, on accurate and timely testing methods.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for all laboratory activities.
  • Create and manage the lab budget for equipment, supplies, and staffing.
  • Ensure that all testing and analysis comply with established industry standards and internal quality protocols.
  • Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and repair of all laboratory equipment and instruments. 
   
  Quality assurance and control
  • Lead the function for monitoring the quality of incoming raw materials, in-process quality checks, and final product inspection.
  • Oversee spectrographic analysis, gas analysis, and physical testing of steel samples to verify chemical composition and mechanical properties.
  • Manage testing on billets, slabs, and finished steel products to ensure they meet customer specifications.
  • Review and approve final testing documents and dossiers before products are shipped. 
   
  Research and development
  • Lead new product development by creating and testing new alloys or heat treatment cycles to achieve desired mechanical properties.
  • Investigate and analyze the root cause of metal failures, fatigue, and other metallurgical defects to recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the R&D team to innovate and improve existing steel materials and production processes.
