A Boiler DCS Job Description involves monitoring and controlling boiler operations via a Distributed Control System (DCS) to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous steam generation. Responsibilities include maintaining critical parameters like steam pressure and temperature, managing alarms and trips, coordinating with field staff for operational actions, recording operational data, and ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities

System Operation:Operate and control boiler systems, including fans, pumps, fuel systems, and associated auxiliary equipment, using the DCS interface.

Parameter Monitoring:Continuously monitor and maintain process parameters such as steam pressure, temperature, fuel feed rates, and water levels to meet performance targets.

Alarm Management:Respond to system alarms, trips, and deviations, acknowledging and taking corrective actions as needed.

Coordination:Coordinate with field operators for routine tasks, start-up, shutdown, and emergency procedures to ensure smooth plant operations.

Data Recording:Maintain hourly records, trends, and deviations in the shift logbook and report any malfunctions or anomalies to senior engineers.

Safety Compliance:Ensure all operations comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs), plant safety regulations, and emergency procedures.

Optimization:Contribute to plant energy optimization by maintaining stable boiler parameters and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements.

Maintenance Support:Participate in control system testing, tuning, and potentially assist with remote operation of equipment and maintenance tasks.
Required Skills and Qualifications

Education:A diploma or higher national diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering or Power Plant Technology is often required.

Technical Knowledge:A strong understanding of boiler operation principles, including high-pressure systems, fuel handling, and steam generation.

DCS Proficiency:Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of Distributed Control Systems is essential.

Analytical Skills:The ability to interpret gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters to maintain optimal boiler efficiency.
