Job Description:

A Pulpit Operator in a rolling mill controls the steel shaping process from a central control room (pulpit), operating machinery like shears, furnaces, and CNC machines to process steel according to production orders, adjusting settings for size/quality, monitoring via HMI/cameras, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring strict safety/quality compliance. They manage parameters, track material, communicate with the floor, and handle documentation for smooth, efficient, high-quality output in a demanding environment.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation: Set up, operate, and monitor rolling mill equipment (shears, furnaces, CNC) from the control pulpit.
Parameter Control: Adjust machine settings (speed, temperature, tension) based on production schedules, work orders, and process sheets.
Quality Assurance: Monitor product quality via HMI/cameras, ensure specifications are met, and perform adjustments to correct deviations.
Production Monitoring: Track steel movement, manage grade changes, and ensure material availability.
Troubleshooting: Identify and diagnose equipment issues, alarms, or potential failures, taking corrective action or escalating to maintenance/supervisors.
Safety & Compliance: Enforce safety protocols, ensure equipment safety features work, and maintain a clean work area.
Communication & Documentation: Coordinate with floor crew, maintenance, and control rooms; maintain production records and update SAP data.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

Basic principles of rolling mill automation and operations.
Ability to read and interpret production schedules and technical documents.
Strong computer skills (HMI, basic software).
Excellent communication and coordination.
Attention to detail and problem-solving.

Typical Requirements

Experience as a Pulpit Operator in a steel or rolling mill setting.
Education often includes B.Sc. (PCM) or relevant technical background.
