Job Description:
An accountant is responsible for managing and reporting on an organization's financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. Key duties include preparing financial statements, managing tax filings, conducting audits, analyzing financial data for business insights, and reconciling accounts. Accountants use their skills to maintain financial health, provide data for decision-making, and ensure adherence to tax laws and accounting principles.
Core responsibilities
- Financial record-keeping: Documenting, organizing, and maintaining financial transactions and records.
- Financial reporting: Preparing and presenting financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Compliance and auditing: Ensuring compliance with tax laws and accounting regulations, and preparing for and assisting with audits.
- Tax management: Calculating and submitting tax returns.
- Financial analysis: Analyzing financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost reduction or revenue enhancement.
- Account reconciliation: Reconciling various financial accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Budgeting: Assisting with budget creation, forecasting, and monitoring expenses.
- Accounts payable and receivable: Managing and processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Required skills
