Job Description:
A design engineer develops and refines products and systems by creating innovative engineering solutions, from initial concept to final product. Key responsibilities include researching new products, designing and prototyping them, conducting tests to ensure functionality and safety, and analyzing data to make improvements. They must also communicate results to stakeholders and ensure designs meet cost, usability, and regulatory standards.
Core responsibilities
- Research and conceptualization: Conduct extensive research for new product ideas and conduct root-cause failure analyses to identify design problems.
- Design and prototyping: Create and develop innovative design solutions using CAD software, draft blueprints, and build prototypes.
- Testing and analysis: Test prototypes under various conditions, analyze test data, and identify areas for improvement to ensure product functionality, safety, and reliability.
- Collaboration and communication: Work with other teams, such as manufacturing and sales, to manage project lifecycles, discuss budgets, and present findings and reports to managers and clients.
- Process improvement: Analyze and improve manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and ensure designs are practical and cost-effective to produce.
