Job Title: Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Faculty for Diploma Programme (DP)

Department: DP

Reports To: Head of Theory of Knowledge Department

Location: Pune

Job Summary:

The Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Faculty member will be responsible for teaching the Theory of Knowledge course as part of the Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum. This role involves guiding students in exploring and critically examining knowledge questions from various perspectives, integrating different areas of knowledge, and developing their critical thinking and analytical skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in philosophy, epistemology, or related fields, along with a passion for interdisciplinary learning and fostering intellectual inquiry.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instruction and Curriculum Delivery:
    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and thought-provoking TOK lessons in accordance with the IB curriculum.
    • Facilitate discussions and activities that encourage students to explore knowledge questions and analyze different ways of knowing.
    • Integrate real-life examples, case studies, and current events into TOK lessons to illustrate theoretical concepts.
  2. Critical Thinking and Inquiry:
    • Guide students in developing critical thinking skills and evaluating the strengths and limitations of knowledge claims.
    • Encourage students to reflect on their own perspectives and biases, as well as those of others.
    • Support students in formulating and articulating reasoned arguments based on evidence and analysis.
  3. Assessment and Feedback:
    • Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, including essays, presentations, and discussions.
    • Provide constructive feedback to students on their TOK assignments and projects.
    • Maintain accurate records of student assessments and grades.
  4. Collaboration and Professional Development:
    • Collaborate with other TOK faculty members and subject teachers to enhance interdisciplinary connections within the DP curriculum.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and professional development activities.
    • Stay updated with developments in TOK pedagogy, epistemology, and educational theory.
  5. Student Support and Guidance:
    • Provide academic and pastoral support to students, addressing their individual learning needs and goals.
    • Mentor students in their personal and intellectual development through TOK discussions and activities.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that values open-mindedness and respect for diverse perspectives.
  6. Community Engagement and Outreach:
    • Engage with parents, guardians, and the school community to discuss TOK curriculum goals and student progress.
    • Participate in school events, such as open houses and parent-teacher conferences, to showcase student learning in TOK.
    • Promote TOK-related activities and events that encourage broader community participation and awareness.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Philosophy, Epistemology, Education, or a related field.
  • Teaching certification or qualification, preferably with experience teaching TOK or related subjects at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Strong understanding of TOK principles, IB Diploma Programme requirements, and assessment criteria.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to facilitate meaningful discussions and encourage critical inquiry among students.
  • Proficiency in using technology to support teaching and learning in TOK.
