Job Title: Visual Arts Teacher for MYP/DP

Department: MYP/DP

Reports To: Head of Visual Arts Department

Location: Pune

Job Summary:

The Visual Arts Teacher for MYP/DP will be responsible for teaching and inspiring students in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) within the field of visual arts. This role involves nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and technical skills in students through a variety of artistic mediums and techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in visual arts education, experience with IB curriculum, and a passion for fostering artistic expression and appreciation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instruction and Curriculum Development:
    • Plan, deliver, and assess visual arts lessons for MYP and DP students according to the IB curriculum standards.
    • Develop engaging and challenging projects that encourage artistic exploration and skill development.
    • Integrate art history, theory, and cultural context into lessons to broaden students' understanding of visual arts.
  2. Studio Practice and Techniques:
    • Teach and demonstrate various artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital media.
    • Provide guidance on the use of tools, materials, and equipment in the art studio.
    • Foster experimentation and innovation in students’ artistic practices.
  3. Student Support and Feedback:
    • Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students on their artistic progress and projects.
    • Support students in developing their portfolios for IB assessments and exhibitions.
    • Encourage reflection and self-assessment as part of the artistic process.
  4. Collaboration and Professional Development:
    • Collaborate with colleagues within the Visual Arts department and across other subject areas to create interdisciplinary projects.
    • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and professional development opportunities.
    • Stay informed about current trends and developments in visual arts education and IB programmes.
  5. Exhibition and Display:
    • Organize and curate student artwork exhibitions and displays within the school and in the broader community.
    • Prepare students for presenting and discussing their work with peers, teachers, and external audiences.
    • Encourage students to develop a personal artistic identity and voice through their artwork.
  6. Community Engagement and Outreach:
    • Engage with parents, guardians, and the wider community to promote the visual arts program and student achievements.
    • Participate in school events, open houses, and art-related activities to showcase student artwork and creativity.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Art Education, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Teaching certification or qualification, preferably with experience in teaching visual arts at the secondary level.
  • Knowledge of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum and assessment criteria for visual arts.
  • Strong artistic skills and proficiency in a variety of artistic mediums and techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for nurturing creativity and artistic expression in students.
  • Ability to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
