Job Description:
A weighbridge operator's primary responsibilities include accurately weighing incoming and outgoing vehicles, maintaining detailed weight logs, and generating weigh tickets or certificates. They must also ensure vehicles comply with weight regulations, perform routine equipment checks and maintenance, and manage communication with drivers and logistics staff. The role requires strong attention to detail, basic computer skills, and the ability to follow safety protocols.  
 
Core duties
  • Weighing and recording: 
    Operate the weighbridge system to accurately weigh vehicles both when they are empty (tare) and loaded (gross). 
     
  • Data entry: 
    Record all weighing transactions into a computer system or logbook, ensuring accuracy. 
     
  • Documentation: 
    Issue weigh tickets, weight certificates, or receipts to drivers and retain copies for the company. 
     
  • Compliance: 
    Verify that vehicles adhere to weight regulations and prevent overloading. 
     
  • Communication: 
    Interact with drivers to provide instructions, collect necessary information, and address any issues. 
     
  • Equipment management: 
    Perform regular inspections of the weighbridge equipment, report any malfunctions, and conduct minor cleaning and maintenance. 
     
  • Safety: 
    Ensure the safe operation of the weighbridge area and monitor for unauthorized access. 
     
Necessary skills and qualifications
  • Attention to detail: Crucial for accurate weighing and record-keeping. 
     
  • Basic computer skills: Needed for operating the weighbridge software and managing records. 
     
  • Communication skills: Required to interact effectively with drivers and other staff. 
     
  • Manual dexterity: May be needed for minor maintenance or cleaning tasks. 
     
  • Physical stamina: The role can involve working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
