Job description of merchanting / category head

1. Store Sales & Shelf Management:
   • Maintain store shelves by ensuring proper displays, removing damaged or outdated products, and keeping shelves tidy.
   • Restock shelves from inventory and observe inventory levels.
   • Prompt store management to reorder products when levels are low.
   • Arrange returns and credits for damaged goods.

2. Call Schedule & Communication

• Review priorities with supervisor and discuss product promotions, new products, and price changes to determine the call schedule.
• Visit store managers, department managers, and employees to maintain strong customer relationships.
• Answer questions, respond to special requests, and describe product features.

3. Market Research & Competitive Analysis

• Conduct thorough market research and analysis to identify trends and the competitive environment.
• Provide actionable plans based on research to enhance product offerings and performance.

4. Category Management Strategy

• Create and execute comprehensive category management strategies to drive business objectives and growth.
• Maintain tools and processes for seamless execution of strategies across the organization.
• Monitor and evaluate category performance using KPIs to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective measures.

5. Supplier & Promotional Management

• Lead supplier negotiations to secure favorable terms and conditions, achieving cost savings.
• Collaborate with marketing teams to develop effective product messaging, positioning, and communication strategies.
• Execute pricing strategies and promotional plans to optimize profitability and customer value.

6. Promotions & Special Activities

• Assist field sales reps by setting up displays for promotions and checking on them daily.
• Monitor customer reactions to special promotions and forward observations to management.
• Remove promotional displays after the promotion ends.

7. Store & Product Monitoring

• Maintain relationships with store personnel by visiting and maintaining communication.
• Observe competitor pricing and displays to complete call reports.
• Provide information on the opening, expansion, or closing of retail locations in the assigned territory.

8. Quality & Standards

• Follow and enforce merchandising and organization standards.
• Accept ownership of new tasks and explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

9. Industry Trends & Senior Management Recommendations

• Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and technological advancements.
• Provide actionable recommendations to senior management based on gathered information.
