Position Overview: The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing financial processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and assisting with the preparation of financial statements. This role involves supervising junior accounting staff, implementing accounting systems, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The Senior Accountant is a key player in ensuring the financial health of the organization and plays a vital role in budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and provide actionable insights to senior management.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.

General Ledger Management:
- Oversee the general ledger, including reconciliation of accounts and ensuring proper journal entries.
- Monitor and review accounting entries and ensure accuracy of financial data.

Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis to management.

Compliance & Auditing:
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and accounting principles (GAAP).
- Prepare for internal and external audits and implement recommendations to improve financial processes.

Supervision & Mentoring:
- Supervise and mentor junior accountants or accounting clerks, providing guidance on accounting procedures and best practices.
- Review and approve work prepared by junior staff to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Process Improvement:
- Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes, systems, and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement new accounting policies and procedures as necessary.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Resolve any discrepancies in billing or payment.

Tax Preparation & Filing:
- Assist in preparing tax returns and ensuring the company is in compliance with tax laws.
- Collaborate with tax advisors for tax planning and strategy.

Other Duties:
- Assist with ad-hoc financial projects or analyses as requested by senior management.
- Provide financial advice to other departments within the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
- CPA certification or equivalent professional accounting qualification (preferred).
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
