Manager / Senior Manager - Safety
Job Description:
Safety Program Management
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs to meet regulatory requirements and promote a culture of safety within the company.
- Establish safety protocols for all areas of plant operations, including production, maintenance, and laboratory environments.
- Ensure all safety policies and procedures are up to date, effective, and aligned with industry best practices.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and other relevant bodies.
- Maintain and update safety documentation, such as safety data sheets (SDS), risk assessments, and safety audit records.
- Prepare and submit required safety reports to regulatory agencies, company management, and stakeholders.
Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification
- Conduct regular hazard analyses and risk assessments to identify potential safety issues in all areas of plant operations.
- Lead safety audits, inspections, and assessments to identify hazards, unsafe practices, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement corrective action plans for identified safety concerns and monitor the effectiveness of these actions.
Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis
- Lead investigations into workplace accidents, near misses, and safety incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Compile detailed incident reports, including findings, recommendations, and actions taken to prevent recurrence.
- Track safety incidents and trends to identify areas requiring additional training or safety interventions.
Safety Training & Awareness
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring all staff are aware of safety procedures, equipment usage, and emergency response protocols.
- Maintain training records and ensure that employees have up-to-date certifications, particularly for hazardous materials handling, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures.
- Organize periodic safety drills, including fire evacuations, spill response, and first aid training.
Safety Culture & Employee Engagement
- Promote a safety-conscious culture by encouraging employee participation in safety programs, meetings, and initiatives.
- Lead safety committees and meetings, fostering open communication on safety concerns and promoting a continuous improvement mindset.
- Recognize and reward safety performance and milestones to encourage safe behaviors and practices.
Emergency Response & Crisis Management
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including chemical spill response, fire safety, and evacuation procedures.
- Serve as a point of contact for emergency situations and coordinate with first responders, environmental health and safety (EHS) teams, and management.
- Ensure employees are adequately trained and equipped for emergency situations and that safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first aid kits) is readily available and properly maintained.
Continuous Improvement
- Regularly review safety performance metrics, identify trends, and implement strategies to reduce accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, new safety technologies, and best practices, applying relevant innovations to enhance safety operations at the plant.
Technical Skills:

- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI).
- Experience with safety management software, incident reporting tools, and hazard analysis methodologies.
- Familiarity with risk assessment techniques and safety auditing processes.
- Strong understanding of chemical hazards, PPE, hazardous materials handling, and emergency response protocols.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and inspire safety culture at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for delivering training and reporting findings to senior management.
- Problem-solving abilities, particularly in identifying and addressing safety risks and root causes of incidents.
