Job Description:
The job description for a Manager of Purchase for a SID (Sponge Iron Division) and Power Plant involves overseeing the entire procurement lifecycle specific to heavy industrial operations, focusing on cost optimization, vendor management, and ensuring timely supply of raw materials (like iron ore/pellets for SID, coal for power plant), capital equipment, and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute purchasing strategies tailored to the unique needs of a sponge iron plant and an integrated power plant, aiming for cost reduction, quality control, and supply chain resilience.
- Vendor Management: Identify, evaluate, and select reliable suppliers and vendors (for raw materials, spare parts, and contracts). Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to secure the best value, and manage ongoing supplier relationships and performance.
- Procurement Execution: Manage the end-to-end procurement process, including processing purchase requisitions, issuing purchase orders, and coordinating delivery schedules with logistics and plant operations to prevent shortages or delays.
- Cost Control & Analysis: Conduct cost analysis, benchmarking, and market research (e.g., price fluctuations of iron ore, coal, and other materials) to identify cost-saving opportunities and manage the procurement budget effectively.
- Inventory & Logistics Oversight: Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and spare parts, implement inventory control strategies, and coordinate with warehouse/stores departments to ensure efficient use of space and accurate records.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure all purchasing activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and relevant local/national regulations (e.g., quality, safety, environmental, and financial compliance).
- Team Leadership: Oversee the purchasing team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure departmental goals align with overall business objectives.
- Problem Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for resolving issues related to supplier performance, defective goods, or delivery problems, working with internal teams like engineering, production, and finance.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical preferred for technical procurement), or a related field is typically required.
- Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a purchasing or supply chain role, with specific experience in industrial or manufacturing environments (e.g., steel, cement, power generation) highly valued.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with procurement software and ERP systems (like SAP), and an understanding of technical specifications for power plant equipment and SID processes are crucial.
- Core Skills: Strong negotiation, leadership, analytical, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
- Certifications: Professional certifications in procurement or supply chain, such as from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) or APICS, are highly desirable.
