Job Description:
A 1st Class Boiler Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating, monitoring, and maintaining high-pressure boilers and related equipment. Key duties include monitoring and adjusting water, fuel, and chemical levels; observing gauges and meters; performing routine inspections and maintenance; troubleshooting issues; and maintaining detailed logs of all activities. They are also responsible for ensuring the equipment operates within safety regulations and company policies.
Core responsibilities

Boiler operation:Operate and control boilers to supply steam or heat for various industrial processes. This includes adjusting valves to control water, fuel, and air flow to maintain specified pressure and temperature.

Monitoring and control:Continuously monitor gauges, meters, and charts to ensure the boilers are operating correctly and efficiently. Adjust settings as needed based on readings.

Water treatment:Test boiler water quality and add necessary chemicals to prevent corrosion and deposits. Monitor and maintain required water levels.

Maintenance and inspection:Perform regular inspections of boilers and auxiliary equipment like pumps and compressors. Conduct routine maintenance tasks, lubricate equipment, and address minor issues to prevent malfunctions.

Safety and compliance:Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations and company policies. Conduct safety checks on critical components and take immediate action if an issue is detected.

Record-keeping:Maintain daily logs of boiler operations, including instrument readings, test results, maintenance activities, and any equipment malfunctions or repairs.

Housekeeping:Maintain a clean and orderly workspace around the boiler and associated equipment.
Key qualifications
- Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A 1st Class license or certification is a prerequisite, which often signifies the ability to operate high-pressure boilers within specific capacity limits.
- Possession of strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
