PRODUCTION ENGINEER ROLLING MILL FOR STEEL MANUFACTURING - RAIGARH , CHHATTISGARH

A Production Engineer – Rolling Mill is responsible for overseeing and optimizing rolling mill operations to ensure efficient production of steel products (TMT bars, rods, sections, coils, etc.) while maintaining quality, safety, and productivity targets.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations

• Supervise daily operations of hot rolling/cold rolling mill.
• Ensure smooth rolling of billets/slabs into finished steel products.
• Monitor mill parameters such as temperature, speed, roll pressure, and cooling.
• Coordinate with furnace, casting, and finishing sections for continuous production flow.
• Achieve daily/shift production targets with minimum downtime.

Quality Control

• Ensure products meet required standards (dimensional accuracy, surface quality, mechanical properties).
• Monitor defects like cracks, laps, scale, and misrolls.
• Coordinate with QA/QC team for inspections and testing.

Machine & Process Monitoring

• Observe performance of rolling stands, reheating furnace, shears, conveyors, and cooling beds.
• Identify and report mechanical/electrical issues.
• Support maintenance team during breakdowns and preventive maintenance.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to safety rules in high-temperature and heavy machinery environment.
• Conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings.
• Maintain housekeeping as per 5S standards.

Productivity Improvement

• Reduce rejection and scrap rate.
• Improve yield and mill efficiency.
• Implement process improvements and lean manufacturing practices.

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain production logs, shift reports, and downtime records.
• Report deviations in process parameters to senior management.
• Track KPI metrics like tonnage/hour, yield %, and downtime.

Key Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of rolling mill process (TMT bar, wire rod, structural steel, etc.)
• Understanding of metallurgy basics (hot working, recrystallization, etc.)
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, and basic electrical systems
• Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems (preferred)
• Good communication and teamwork

Educational Qualification

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production Engineering
