Job Description:
A General Manager (GM) of Projects and Operations for a Sinter Plant leads end-to-end plant execution, daily production, and maintenance. They oversee raw material processing, quality control, equipment reliability, and safety compliance to ensure optimal sinter cake production for blast furnaces. [1, 2, 3]
Core Responsibilities
1. Project Management & Strategic Planning
- Project Execution: Lead the planning, erection, and commissioning of new sinter plant projects or major plant upgrades.
- Budgeting: Develop and manage the annual operational, maintenance (O&M), and capital expenditure (CAPEX) budgets.
- Continuous Improvement: Spearhead process optimization initiatives and capacity utilization projects to drive down costs and improve production yield. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
2. Plant Operations & Production
- Output Optimization: Drive daily performance to consistently meet or exceed production targets and quality requirements for blast furnaces. [1, 2]
- Process Control: Oversee sintering parameters including ignition, moisture control, green mix preparation, and cooling/screening operations. [1, 2]
- Supply Chain Alignment: Coordinate closely with raw material handling (RMHS) and procurement teams to ensure smooth flow of iron ore fines, coke, and fluxes. [1, 2, 3]
3. Maintenance & Equipment Reliability
- Maintenance Strategies: Oversee predictive, preventive, and scheduled maintenance for heavy machinery (conveyors, pug mills, suction fans, sinter machines) to minimize downtime.
- Shutdown Planning: Plan and execute major plant shutdowns and overhauls in coordination with electrical and mechanical teams. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Qualifications
- Experience: Typically \(12+\) years of progressive experience in heavy industry, primarily in iron and steel manufacturing.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of the sintering process, raw material physical properties, and process optimization. [1, 2, 3, 4]
