Job Description:
The Head of Business Development for a transmission line tower (TLT) manufacturing company is a senior executive responsible for driving revenue growth, market expansion, and strategic partnerships within the power transmission and distribution industry. This role involves high-level strategic planning, client acquisition, and negotiation of significant contracts. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement comprehensive sales and business development strategies to achieve company targets and expand market share, both domestically and internationally.
  • Client Relationship Management: Identify new business opportunities and build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, including T&D utilities, EPC contractors, and government bodies.
  • Market Analysis and Intelligence: Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs to inform and refine sales tactics, pricing strategies, and go-to-market plans.
  • Tender and Contract Management: Lead the preparation of Expressions of Interest (EOIs), tenders, and Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, coordinating with technical, commercial, and tendering teams to ensure alignment with client requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Negotiation and Deal Closure: Prepare, present, and negotiate detailed technical and commercial proposals, ensuring favorable terms and successful contract closures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, quality, and project management teams to ensure sales efforts align with operational capabilities and project delivery timelines.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, motivate, and coach a team of business development professionals, setting targets, monitoring KPIs, and fostering a performance-driven culture.
  • Reporting and Performance Tracking: Prepare and present regular sales reports, business cases, financial models, and strategic proposals to the executive leadership team and board members.
  • Industry Representation: Represent the organization at client meetings, industry forums, trade shows, and networking events to build brand image and visibility. 
 
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience: Extensive progressive business development or sales leadership experience (typically 10-20+ years) in the power sector, specifically within utilities, transmission/distribution, or the TLT manufacturing industry.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical) or Business is typically required, with an MBA often preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of power transmission networks, EHV/HV substations and lines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., as per PGCIL/CTU guidelines).
  • Skills:
    • Strategic thinking and long-term planning abilities.
    • Excellent negotiation and complex deal-making skills.
    • Strong financial acumen and ability to assess business opportunities.
    • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven ability to build and nurture high-level client relationships and lead cross-functional teams.
    • Proficiency in CRM systems and data analysis for performance tracking and forecasting.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel extensively to engage with clients and stakeholders across various regions.
