Job Description:
A Data Entry Operator is responsible for accurately inputting, updating, and maintaining large volumes of information into company databases, spreadsheets, or software systems. Key duties include verifying data for accuracy, checking for errors, and ensuring information confidentiality. They often work with both digital and physical documents to ensure data integrity.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Data Entry: Inputting text, numerical data, and customer information from source documents into systems.
- Data Verification: Reviewing, auditing, and checking documents for errors or inconsistencies before and after entry.
- Database Maintenance: Updating existing records, deleting obsolete data, and ensuring database accuracy.
- Information Management: Organizing, sorting, and filing digital or physical records.
- Reporting: Generating reports and summaries for management upon request.
- Data Protection: Adhering to confidentiality guidelines for sensitive, financial, or personal information.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Fast & Accurate Typing: High-speed, accurate typing (e.g., 8000+ key depressions per hour or 45-60+ WPM) [3, 10, ZipRecruiter].
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word) and database management software.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot mistakes and maintain high accuracy.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and documents.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred in some sectors.
Common Qualifications
- Experience in data entry, typing, or clerical work.
- High speed and accuracy with 10-key data entry.
- Good communication skills.
