Job Description:
A Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) or Junior Engineer in Mechanical Safety for a steel manufacturing plant is responsible for implementing safety protocols, maintaining heavy machinery, and ensuring compliance with occupational safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, Factories Act) to foster a zero-accident environment. They work on the shop floor to prevent mechanical failures and ensure worker safety during the production of steel.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Safety Compliance & Auditing: Enforce strict adherence to safety (HSE) protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, 5S standards, and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance: Execute routine checks and maintenance on heavy machinery—such as hydraulic systems, conveyors, furnaces, and rolling mills—to prevent mechanical failures.
- Hazard Identification & Reporting: Conduct daily shop floor inspections to identify unsafe conditions or acts, and document safety breaches.
- Troubleshooting: Analyze mechanical breakdowns and perform root cause analysis (RCA) to prevent reoccurrence.
- Safety Training: Assist in training workers on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and safe handling of materials.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, safety checks, and incident reports.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, heavy machinery, and AutoCAD.
- Experience: 0-1 year for GET (Graduate Engineer Trainee) or 4-15 years for Foreman/Manager roles.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, teamwork, ability to work in high-temperature environments, and problem-solving skills.

- Molten Metal: Safely handling high-temperature materials and preventing slag explosions.
