Job Description:
A Procurement Officer for a steel manufacturing company manages the end-to-end sourcing of raw materials like iron ore, coal, coke, scrap, and ferroalloys. Key responsibilities include negotiating contracts, reducing costs, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring uninterrupted production by maintaining optimal inventory levels.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Strategic Sourcing: Research and identify reliable suppliers for raw materials and spares to ensure cost-efficiency and quality.
- Negotiation & Contracts: Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to meet budgetary targets.
- Procurement Operations: Raise, track, and manage Purchase Orders (POs) from issuance to delivery.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production and stores to prevent stockouts.
- Market Analysis: Track market trends (e.g., LME, coal prices) to optimize purchasing costs.
- Vendor Management: Evaluate vendor performance and build strong supplier relationships.
- Compliance: Ensure all purchases adhere to company policies, ISO quality standards, and environmental regulations.
Key Requirements & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
- Experience: Previous experience in raw material procurement within the steel or metal industry (iron ore, coke, scrap).
- Skills: Strong negotiation, analytical skills, market knowledge of raw materials, and proficiency in ERP software.
