Job Description:
An Assistant Production Manager in chains manufacturing oversees daily shop-floor operations, manages labor, ensures product quality, and optimizes production processes. They bridge the gap between senior management and factory workers to guarantee chain production meets delivery schedules, budget constraints, and industry safety standards. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Responsibilities
- Production Planning: Assist the Production Manager in developing daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing schedules to meet sales demands and dispatch targets. [1, 2]
- Shop-Floor Supervision: Oversee the day-to-day manufacturing of chains, ensuring optimal workflow, minimal downtime, and proper utilization of machinery (e.g., drawing machines, link formers, heat treatment furnaces). [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Quality Assurance: Monitor chain dimensions, tensile strength, and metallurgical properties against industry standards (e.g., ISO, BIS) to ensure defect-free output. [1, 2]
- Inventory & Material Management: Track raw material stocks (steel wire, alloy coils) and coordinate with the procurement team to prevent material shortages. [1, 2, 3]
- Team Leadership: Train, schedule, and evaluate production staff, including machine operators and quality inspectors. [1, 2]
- Process Optimization: Implement Lean manufacturing and 5S principles to reduce waste, lower production costs, and enhance overall efficiency. [1, 2, 3]
- Safety Enforcement: Ensure a safe working environment by strictly enforcing health and safety protocols and conducting regular equipment audits. [1, 2]
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in a metal, steel, or heavy-engineering manufacturing facility.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, understanding metallurgy/heat treatment, and operating ERP/SAP software for production planning.
