Job Description:
A Coal Handling Plant (CHP) Helper in a steel manufacturing company/power plant supports the operation and maintenance of coal handling systems, ensuring a steady supply of fuel for boilers and furnaces. This role involves physical labor, material handling, and cleaning to maintain operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Fuel Handling and Feeding: Assist in receiving coal, stacking, reclaiming, and feeding coal into crushers and conveyor belts.
- Cleaning and Housekeeping: Clean conveyor belts, chutes, crusher areas, and coal bunkers to prevent blockages, spillage, and safety hazards.
- Operational Assistance: Support CHP Operators in running machinery like conveyor systems, vibrating screens, and pumps.
- Maintenance Support: Assist technicians with cleaning tools, fetching spare parts, and performing minor repairs.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean work environment, particularly during high-moisture/rainy seasons.
- Material Transfer: Moving coal, tools, and heavy equipment within the plant site.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Physical Strength: Ability to handle physical labor, including heavy lifting, and working in dusty or noisy environments.
- Instruction Following: Capability to understand and follow technical instructions from operators and supervisors.
- Safety Focus: Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, industrial safety norms.
- Education: Typically requires a High School Diploma or ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate, though not always mandatory for entry-level roles.
Typical Work Environment
The role is usually in a thermal power plant, captive power plant (CPP), or coal handling section of an integrated steel plant, involving shift work (day/night).
