Job Description:
A Cook for a power plant, particularly at a nuclear site, prepares large-scale, high-quality, and nutritious meals for essential staff, strictly adhering to safety and sanitation protocols. Key duties include cooking in large volumes, maintaining food safety (HACCP) standards, managing inventory, cleaning kitchen equipment, and following strict, secure facility protocols, often requiring ServSafe certification and industrial kitchen experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Food Preparation: Prepare and serve nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) in large volumes according to menus and standardized recipes.
- Safety and Sanitation: Maintain strict adherence to sanitation standards, including Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations, and maintain proper food storage temperatures.
- Inventory Management: Monitor food supplies, manage inventory, and submit orders for stock replenishment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate, clean, and sanitize industrial kitchen equipment and workstations.
- Operational Support: Coordinate food production with fellow kitchen staff and ensure safe handling of food.
- Security Compliance: Adhere to safety and security policies of the power plant environment, which may include stringent site access procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Proven experience in commercial or industrial cooking, preferably in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Certification: ServSafe Food Handler Certification or equivalent is often required.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of food safety protocols, including sanitation, hygiene, and safe storage.
- Skills: Strong cooking techniques, ability to work on a team, and attention to detail for consistency.
- Physical Ability: Capability to work on feet for long periods, work in high-temperature conditions, and lift moderate weights.
