Job Description:
A Purchase Officer for a Sinter Plant is responsible for sourcing and acquiring raw materials (iron ore fines, coke breeze, fluxes), industrial consumables, and spare parts for plant equipment while ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely delivery to maintain continuous operation. They bridge the gap between suppliers and the technical team to ensure quality inputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement & Sourcing: Procure raw materials (iron ore fines, coke, limestone) and industrial consumables, including refractories, conveyor belts, and other plant spares.
- Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers for timely delivery of materials.
- Negotiation & Cost Optimization: Negotiate contract terms, pricing, and freight costs to secure the best ROI while adhering to budget constraints.
- Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels (raw materials and spares) to avoid shortages that could halt production.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality control to ensure all incoming materials meet the required technical specifications for sintering.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, invoices, and contracts, utilizing ERP/SAP systems.
- Coordination: Act as a liaison between the plant operations team and vendors to resolve disputes over quantities or damaged goods.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in procurement, preferably in a sinter plant, steel plant, or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of raw material requirements for steel manufacturing, specifically iron ore handling and sinter plant operations.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP MM).
- Communication: Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
