Job Description:
A Mechanical Engineer for HEMM (Heavy Earth Moving Machinery) in a steel plant oversees the maintenance, repair, and optimal operation of heavy mobile equipment used in raw material handling, such as dumpers, excavators, loaders, dozers, and mobile cranes. Their primary goal is to minimize equipment downtime. [1, 2, 3]
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Reliability: Develop and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance schedules for the HEMM fleet to ensure maximum equipment availability and operational efficiency.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Lead teams in diagnosing mechanical faults in engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and power trains to implement corrective actions rapidly.
- Spare Parts Management: Forecast requirements, maintain inventory of critical spares, and coordinate with vendors to ensure timely availability of parts while controlling maintenance costs.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to mining and industrial safety standards (ISO/IMS) and conduct regular safety audits to ensure a zero-accident environment.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and manage shift mechanics and junior technicians.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive logs of breakdown history, repair activities, and performance metrics. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
