Job Description:
The Vice President (VP) of a power plant is a senior executive responsible for the strategic leadership, operational excellence, and financial profitability of the facility. They bridge high-level corporate goals with daily plant operations, ensuring optimal energy production, strict regulatory compliance, and a strong safety culture. [1, 2, 3]
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Develop long-term strategies for power generation aligned with company targets, grid demands, and market dynamics. [1, 2]
- Operational Excellence: Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and multi-site generation. Optimize equipment availability and power output while managing P&L (Profit & Loss). [1, 2, 3]
- Project Management: Lead the planning, budgeting, procurement, and execution of new plant projects, upgrades, or major turnarounds. [1, 2]
- Compliance & Safety: Enforce environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies. Secure and maintain statutory, regulatory, and environmental clearances. [1, 2]
- Stakeholder Management: Coordinate with EPC contractors, regulatory authorities, and internal teams. [1, 2]
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Power Engineering. A Master’s degree or MBA is often preferred .
- Experience: Typically 25+ years in the power generation industry, including 10+ years in a senior leadership or plant management role.
- Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of power plant equipment, process engineering, and modern digital/decarbonization technologies.
- Leadership: Proven executive ability to manage budgets, mentor engineering teams, and drive large-scale strategic initiatives. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
